Raqs Media Collective, established in 1992 and headquartered in New Delhi, India, came into being through the collaborative efforts of Monica Narula, Shuddhabrata Sengupta, and Jeebesh Bagchi. Their collective journey commenced with the creation of their very first 16mm film, "Half the Night Left, and the Universe to Comprehend," a piece of work that, sadly, no longer exists. Raqs Media Collective adheres to a guiding principle they've dubbed 'kinetic contemplation.' This principle drives them to embark on a creative path that is in constant flux in terms of its forms and rigorous in its processes. Through their art, Raqs delves into the intricate relationship between individuals and time, encompassing elements of anticipation, speculation, involvement, and excavation. Their artistic output introduces us to individuals characterized by profound cognitive and sensory sensitivity, reshaping our perceptions and challenging us to reevaluate the seemingly ordinary aspects of our lives.
