Description
The Mask Stool, a brainchild of Danish architect Eva Harlou, showcases an innovative design born from a revolutionary production method. This cutting-edge approach allows Mater to repurpose low-value waste, such as spent grain (or ‘mask’ in Danish) from Carlsberg’s beer production, into functional and distinctive design solutions.
In partnership with the Danish Technological Institute, Mater has pioneered a new industrial technology for processing various fiber-based waste materials, including spent grain from beer production. After years of meticulous research and testing, Mater successfully transformed these waste materials into a unique composite by combining them with post-industrial plastic waste.
The Mask Stool exemplifies a waste-to-value approach that encourages more efficient use of resources, ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future for our planet and its inhabitants. With its adjustable height feature, the Mask Stool is a versatile and adaptive piece of furniture.
This groundbreaking production method empowers companies to develop their own eco-friendly interior solutions using their waste streams. The Mask Stool aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12, 13, and 17, demonstrating a commitment to responsible consumption, climate action, and global partnerships.
