Description
“Books and Films” offers a comprehensive look into the world of Jakob Tuggener, an artist who captured the dichotomy of modern life, ranging from the grim ambiance of factories to the opulence of high society. Tuggener’s fascination with various elements of modernization, including railroads, ports, and car races, is evident in his work. From the mid-1930s, he created hand-crafted book maquettes containing up to 150 original photos, exploring these themes. While only “Fabrik” was published during his lifetime, this compilation includes facsimiles of twelve original maquettes, dating from 1936 to 1982, alongside a selection of his 16mm films. Tuggener’s silent black-and-white films and photobooks, devoid of text, reflect his artistic vision. This publication, co-produced with Fotostiftung Schweiz and the Jakob Tuggener Foundation, marks the first time a broad audience can fully appreciate the depth and range of Tuggener’s work, an insightful journey through the contrasts and narratives of his era.
