Description
Established by the City of Amsterdam after WWII, Jongensland was a magical space, accessible only by rowboat, where children could play, create, and build to their hearts’ desire, often without supervision. Over time, the space grew into a small “city” with structures that showcased the youngsters’ resourcefulness, ingenuity, and architectural intuition. Architectural photographer Ursula Schulz-Dornburg discovered the site in 1969 and captured Jongensland in a series of images that showcase the site’s imaginative atmosphere and creatively designed buildings. The book contains largely unseen photographs as well as an essay by architectural historian Tom Wilkinson. Great as a gift, Huts, Temples, Castles has an embossed hardcover.
