Cabbage

The Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Collection turns one of the most ordinary vegetables into some of the most recognizable Portuguese ceramic tableware. Modeled with deep veins, curled edges, overlapping leaves, and richly glazed surfaces, the collection includes cabbage plates, bowls, serving platters, pitchers, teapots, cake stands, and other pieces for the table.

The collection has its roots in the work of Portuguese artist Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, who founded his ceramics factory in Caldas da Rainha in 1884. His cabbage designs brought a familiar part of everyday Portuguese life onto the dining table, using detailed naturalistic modeling together with the humor that runs throughout much of his work.

Today, Bordallo Pinheiro continues to produce the Cabbage collection in Portugal in glazed earthenware. Individual pieces can bring color and texture to otherwise simple tableware, while plates, bowls, serving pieces, and drinkware can also be combined into a complete cabbage-themed table setting.
