Description
The Tropical Fruits Pitaya Box takes the distinctive shape of a pitaya, also known as dragon fruit, and turns it into a substantial lidded earthenware container. The rounded lower section forms the storage compartment, while the tall tapered upper half lifts away as the lid.
At 14 inches high, this is closer in scale to a tabletop sculpture than a conventional trinket box. The glossy pink surface is modeled with overlapping sections and raised green-tipped points that reproduce the fruit’s outer skin. Each piece is painted by hand, emphasizing the changes in color across the relief.
The 3.5-liter interior can hold wrapped sweets, tea sachets, napkins, or small household objects. It can also be displayed empty on a dining table, kitchen island, sideboard, or open shelf. The strong vertical shape makes it especially useful in arrangements that need height rather than another low bowl or tray.
Made in Portugal from earthenware, the box belongs to Bordallo Pinheiro’s tableware and utilitarian category. It is dishwasher safe, although its size and projecting ceramic details require careful handling. The manufacturer also permits microwave use for heating, provided the piece is never run empty. Oven use is not recommended, and sudden temperature changes should be avoided.
