Description

The Cineraria Pitcher takes Bordallo Pinheiro’s fascination with plants and animals into particularly playful territory. Made in Portugal from earthenware, the pitcher is covered with deeply modeled cineraria leaves, their veins and irregular edges emphasized by layers of green glaze.

Two small birds perch near the top of the handle, adding a sculptural detail to a piece that is still made for everyday serving. With a capacity of 60.9 fl oz, the pitcher holds enough water, iced tea, lemonade, or juice for a dinner table or a long lunch outdoors before returning indoors for cleanup.

At 9.5 inches high, it also works well beyond drinks. Fill it with branches or cut flowers between meals, or leave it on an open shelf where the leaf texture and birds can be seen from the side.
