Designed by Miguel Milá in 2022, Cesta Exterior adapts his original 1962 Cesta lamp for covered terraces, porches, balconies, and other protected outdoor areas. The familiar basket-like structure and luminous globe remain, but the original cherry wood and glass have been replaced with aluminum and polyethylene.
The curved aluminum frame surrounds a white opal polyethylene shade and extends upward to form a broad handle. The handle makes the lamp easier to reposition, although Cesta Exterior is corded rather than rechargeable. An on/off switch is located beneath the lamp.
Measuring 22.4 inches high and 17.3 inches across at its widest point, Cesta Exterior works on a low outdoor table or directly on the floor beside a sofa or lounge chair. The opal shade diffuses the light evenly, making this an ambient lamp rather than a focused reading or task light.
The American version uses one E26 LED bulb, which is not included. Santa & Cole currently recommends a 3.4W, 470-lumen, 2700K bulb. The enclosure has an IP65 protection rating, but the American UL version is approved for damp locations rather than wet locations. It should therefore be installed in a protected area and not left directly exposed to rain.
