Description

The Barceloneta Lounge Chair was designed by Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá in 1953 for the Casa de la Marina, a housing project in Barcelona’s waterfront Barceloneta neighborhood. Low to the floor and easy to move, it was conceived as an informal chair for reading, talking, or simply stretching out with a drink close at hand.

Its natural varnished beech frame forms a triangular structure between the rear legs, seat, and tall inclined back. A fixed leather seat sits only 13.4 inches from the floor, while the white canvas backrest is tensioned with rope through metal eyelets, borrowing a practical detail from sailing. The canvas can be removed for washing.

The high back supports the head without requiring armrests, and the chair weighs only about 11 pounds, making it surprisingly easy to reposition around a living room, bedroom, library, or reading area.

Made for indoor use, Barceloneta remains remarkably direct in its construction: wood, leather, canvas, and rope, assembled around the needs of a very relaxed seating position.
