Description
The Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Teapot turns a full head of cabbage into a 1.25-liter tea server. Deeply modeled green leaves wrap the rounded body and continue across the removable lid, while the cream-colored handle and tapered spout provide a clear contrast to the darker glaze.
The leaf veins are part of the ceramic relief rather than a flat surface pattern. Darker green glaze gathers inside the recessed lines, while the raised edges remain lighter and more pronounced. From spout to handle, the teapot measures 12.5 inches, giving it enough scale to become the center of a tea table before the first cup is poured.
Its capacity works for several servings of black tea at breakfast, Earl Grey with cake in the afternoon, or mint and chamomile after dinner. It can also carry iced hibiscus tea or a citrus infusion for an outdoor lunch, provided sudden changes in temperature are avoided.
The teapot does not require a complete matching service. Place it beside plain white cups, clear glasses, or simple cream-colored stoneware and let the cabbage form provide the color. For a more abundant table, pair it with Bordallo Pinheiro’s Cabbage cups, saucers, plates, and serving pieces.
At brunch, use it alongside pastries, fruit, and preserves. For an afternoon gathering, bring it out with a cake stand and a stack of mismatched cups. Once the tea is finished, the closed teapot can remain on an open kitchen shelf, sideboard, or bar cabinet rather than being hidden away with ordinary serveware.
