Description
Designed by Miguel Milá in 1962, Cestita is the smaller member of the Cesta lamp family for Santa & Cole. Its name means “small basket” in Spanish, a direct reference to the wooden structure that holds the illuminated globe. The family began after Milá found an abandoned opaline globe outside a Barcelona glass factory and developed a wooden frame to support it.
At 14.1 inches high and 8.6 inches in diameter, Cestita is compact enough for a bedside table, shelf, console, or low side table. The cherry wood frame curves around the diffuser and continues upward to form a handle, making the lamp easy to reposition within reach of its power cord.
The frame is manually produced by European craftspeople using traditional steam-bending techniques. Its polished cherry wood provides a warm contrast to the white opal diffuser, which softens the bulb and distributes light around the lamp.
Choose White Opal Glass for the heavier and more delicate version, or White Opal Polyethylene for a lighter diffuser that better withstands everyday knocks. Replacement diffusers in both materials are available separately from Santa & Cole.
The US version uses one E26 LED bulb, not included, and has an in-line on/off switch. Santa & Cole’s current specification recommends a 3.4W LED bulb producing 470 lumens at 2700K. The lamp is UL listed for indoor, dry-location use and does not have an integrated dimmer.
Although the handle allows the lamp to be moved easily, this is the corded Cestita. It should not be confused with the separate Cestita Batería, which has a rechargeable battery and integrated LED.
