Description
The Sekiei Doorbell is a delicate door chime made from high-purity quartz glass, designed to produce a clear, lingering tone with very little force. The glass element is suspended from a slim metal arm, allowing it to move freely and resonate when struck by the small clapper.
Quartz glass is rarely used in everyday objects. It’s valued for its transparency, stability, and resistance to heat, and is more commonly found in scientific and industrial settings. Here, those same properties give the bell its character: the sound is light, precise, and slow to fade, carrying gently through a space rather than stopping abruptly.
Visually, the design is almost diagrammatic. The structure is minimal, the materials are exposed, and nothing feels hidden or decorative. Hung near an entryway, the Sekiei Doorbell signals arrival in a quiet, restrained way—more presence than announcement. Handmade in Japan.
