Description
At nearly fifteen inches tall, Giant Duck gives Hans Bølling’s wooden bird enough scale to stand beside a lounge chair. Its smaller companion has the same broad bill, rounded head, and flat feet, with a shorter, fuller body. Handmade in solid teak by Danish design company Architectmade, these large wooden duck sculptures leave the grain visible across their curved surfaces.
Bølling created the original Duck and Duckling in 1959, inspired by a Copenhagen policeman who stopped traffic to let a family of ducks cross the street. The Giant versions enlarge those designs, with movable heads that let you change the direction of their gaze. Place them together on a low cabinet or arrange them one behind the other on an open stretch of floor.
The set includes one Giant Duck and one Giant Duckling. Together, they make a generous gift for a collector of Danish wooden figures—or a household ready to accommodate two unusually well-behaved birds.
