Description
Mermaid has her arms in a circle and her tail curled upward, as though she has just settled in. Danish architect Hans Bølling designed this wooden mermaid figurine in 1960. Produced by Danish design company Architectmade, it pairs a pale maple upper body with a darker oak lower body. Long wooden hair frames a small face, while the grain remains visible across the broad, curved tail.
There is plenty to rearrange. Turn the head, arms, body, or fin to change her pose; the head also lifts off so you can position the arms overhead. Leave her looking across the room, or turn her toward a neighboring object on the shelf. The rounded parts and contrasting woods keep the figure recognizable through every adjustment.
Handmade and sold individually, Mermaid makes a thoughtful gift for a collector of Danish wooden figures—or someone who would appreciate a little company on the bookshelf.
