Description
This cast-iron bottle opener takes the form of a stretched, low-slung dog, captured mid-step in a single continuous line. The silhouette is simple but immediately readable: tail, back, head, and legs resolved into a shape that feels both playful and matter-of-fact.
Made in Japan by Sumitani Saburo Shoten, the opener is cast using traditional metalworking techniques in Takaoka, Toyama—an area long associated with high-quality ironware. It has a reassuring weight in the hand, with just enough heft to stay put on a table or shelf when not in use. The hook at the front is shaped to catch caps cleanly, without needing force or adjustment.
It works as expected, opens bottles cleanly, and looks good left out between uses. A small object, but one that carries the character of the workshop that made it.
