Designer
Born in London in 1959, Jasper Morrison studied at Kingston Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art before opening his own design office in 1986. His work spans furniture, lighting, tableware, and everyday objects, giving familiar forms character through careful adjustments to proportion and material. In 2006, he explored this approach with Naoto Fukasawa through Super Normal, an exhibition examining why certain ordinary objects remain useful and satisfying over time. Morrison has collaborated with Emeco, Alessi, Vitra, Flos, and Fredericia, among others. His Alfi seating for Emeco takes inspiration from the rounded backs of Parisian café chairs, translated into a molded shell. Comfort, ease of use, and the way an object settles into daily life are recurring concerns throughout his work. His designs are held in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
