Description
The Bordallo Pinheiro Duck Pitcher turns a standing duck into a functional earthenware jug. The open yellow bill forms the pouring spout, while an arched green handle rises behind the head and connects to the bird’s back. Sculpted feathers, webbed orange feet, raised wings, and a short tail complete the form.
The hand-painted colors are based on the markings of a mallard: a mottled green head, chestnut-brown breast, cream and brown body, and darker wing details. The pitcher is finished on every side, so it remains convincing when viewed from across a dining table or displayed on an open shelf.
At breakfast, use it for orange juice or cold milk. For an outdoor lunch, it can carry iced water, lemonade, or tea. In the evening, it provides a memorable container for sangria, fruit punch, or a prepared batch cocktail. Plain glasses and simple linens are enough; the pitcher supplies all the color and character the table needs.
Its 13-inch height also makes it useful away from the dining table. Fill it with tulips, narcissus, dahlias, meadow flowers, or a loose branch from the garden. It can also remain empty on a bar cart, kitchen shelf, or sideboard, where the raised bill, handle, wings, and feet are easier to appreciate than they would be inside a crowded cabinet.
Made in Portugal from hand-painted earthenware, the pitcher is microwave safe for reheating and dishwasher safe. Oven use is not recommended, and sudden temperature changes should be avoided. The piece weighs approximately 2.5 pounds before filling; when carrying it full, hold the handle securely and support the body with the other hand.
Because each pitcher is painted by hand, slight differences in shading and brushwork should be expected.
