The Bordallo Pinheiro Fish Pitcher turns a curled fish into a tall, functional serving vessel. Its open mouth forms the pouring spout, while the body curves around a central grip. Scales, fins, eyes, and the raised green base are modeled in earthenware and painted by hand in deep red, black, white, and green.
With a capacity of approximately 2.3 liters, the pitcher can handle more than a few glasses of water. Fill it with iced tea or lemonade for an outdoor lunch, orange juice for brunch, or sangria for a long dinner. At a seafood meal, the fish form can carry the theme without requiring matching plates or nautical accessories. Pairing it with plain glassware and simple white dinnerware keeps the table from becoming overly busy.
The pitcher also works well on a bar cart, where its 13-inch height provides a useful vertical element among shorter bottles and glasses. Between meals, it can hold tall flowers, leafy stems, or a single branch, or remain empty on an open shelf as a sculptural ceramic object.
Bordallo Pinheiro classifies the pitcher as functional tableware. It is microwave safe for reheating and dishwasher safe, although its height and projecting fins require careful placement. Never run the pitcher empty in the microwave, remove it from the dishwasher after the cycle ends, and avoid abrupt changes in temperature. Oven use is not recommended.
The pitcher weighs almost 2.5 pounds before it is filled. When serving a full pitcher, hold it securely through the central opening and support the body with the other hand when necessary.
