Created in 2014 by industrial designer Konstantin Grcic for Artek, the high back RIVAL Chair brings an unprecedented level of style and comfort to an overlooked, “ordinary” object. The invisibly integrated swivel mechanism “offers a psychological clue as to the purpose of the chair…it is a gesture that can almost be seen as giving the user permission to leave their domestic setting behind, and to start work” according to design critic Dyan Sudjic, while expert wood construction and upholstered seats in either leather or 3-D knit fabric complete the chair’s classic look.
