Designer
Born in Tarragona in 1960, Antoni Arola is a Spanish designer known for his poetic exploration of light. He studied at Barcelona’s Eina School, worked with Lievore & Pensi and Associate Designers, and founded Estudi Arola in 1994. His practice spans lighting, interiors, objects, perfume bottles, and large-scale installations, yet light remains the central material of his work. Arola approaches illumination as more than a practical necessity. Through temperature, reflection, shadow, and rhythm, his lamps shape the atmosphere of a space as much as they illuminate it. His best-known designs for Santa & Cole include Nimba, Moaré, Cirio, and Lámina, each combining technical ingenuity with an expressive use of materials. Awarded Spain’s National Design Award in 2003, Arola has helped define contemporary Spanish lighting. His work draws inspiration from art, craft, and cultures around the world while remaining grounded in how people experience light in everyday life.
