Established in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, Milan-based OLuce is the oldest lighting design company that’s still active in Italy today. From the very beginning, the company inserted itself at the intersection of art and light, playing with form, material and mechanical wizardry.

O-Luce was a hub for design innovators in the nineteen-fifties and sixties. This exciting experimentation, to which the Model 275 table lamp by Marco Zanuso was added, developed in the new Acrilica series designed with Joe Colombo. The art director Vico Magistretti was appointed in the 1970s, and the Atollo lamp continues to be a key part of OLuce’s design language.

In every OLuce product we find the DNA of a company that is determined to interpret creativity without compromise. And whether pendant, floor lamp or outdoor sculptural fixture, the firm’s lighting is highly calibrated in between clarity and atmosphere — modern Italian lighting grounded by its feet (that old craftsmanship thing). Thanks to the Verderi family, OLuce obtains a boutique dimension that allows it to keep its (a few thousand pieces annually) production, and thus its quality and identity under control.

It’s kept up with the times in recent years, working on designs by Nendo, Victor Vasilev, Giopato & Coombes and other to bring new material experiments and forms into the archive — but always with its core mission for OLuce: To make light that last in form and spirit.
