Thomas E. Alken has spent decades designing furniture that’s made to be used—not just looked at. Since 1997, he’s run Format Design in Copenhagen, where his focus stays on proportion, comfort, and how a piece fits into daily life. His collaboration with FDB Møbler includes both new designs and subtle reworks of Danish classics, always with an eye toward durability and ease. Trained as an industrial designer, Alken brings a quiet precision to his work—refining the details, trusting the materials, and letting the design speak through how it’s made.
