Nikolaj Klitgaard

Nikolaj Klitgaard (b. 1992) is a Danish carpenter and designer whose work is rooted in an early fascination with wood. He made his first objects in his grandfather’s carpentry workshop, where he began learning the material through hands-on experimentation. Klitgaard later trained as a carpenter and received a silver medal for his work in 2013. Woodturning became a particular focus, giving him a way to transform simple geometric forms into objects with an unexpected amount of character. That approach is especially visible in Bubo, the wooden owl Klitgaard first shaped by hand in 2013. Made from oak, the figure uses a movable head and magnetically attached wings to shift expression with only a few small adjustments. His Jul collection grew from a similarly personal starting point: a set of Christmas decorations he began developing as a gift for his mother. Today, both collections are produced by ARCHITECTMADE, bringing Klitgaard’s background in traditional woodworking into a distinctly contemporary context.
