Born in 1964 in Barcelona, Spain, Martí Guixé graduated with a degree in interior design from the Elislava school of design in 1985. The following year, he moved to Italy to study industrial design at the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. After two years in South Korea, he returned to Barcelona where he opened his own studio. In 2001, Martí Guixé famously started the ex-designer movement and adopted the same label as a critique on the limited scope of the traditional role of the designer. In recent years, he has softened his stance following the evolution of the parameters of classic design. Throughout his work, Martí Guixé aims to create new typologies, favoring ideas instead of function or even form. Martí Guixé is also regarded as a pioneer of food design. He has created commercial designs for a variety of brands, including Droog Design, Nikari, Moleskine, Vitra, and Alessi, among others. His work has been exhibited worldwide at MoMA in New York, Design Museum London, Centre Georges Pompidou, and National Art Center Tokyo.
