Born in Egypt and raised in Canada, Karim Rashid is one of the most prolific contemporary designers. His illustrious career began shortly after completing his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design at the Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and his postgraduate studies with Ettore Sottsass in Naples, Italy. His inspiring work explores sensual forms and sculptural silhouettes as well as playful concepts and the beauty of minimalist refinement. Karim Rashid opened his own studio in NYC in 1993. Since then, he has collaborated with renowned brands on a wide range of projects, from furniture and high-tech products to lighting and interior design. Notable clients include Alessi, Veuve Clicquot, Kenzo, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, and Audi. The designer’s work has received many awards, including the Red Dot Design Award, Good Design Award, and the IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award. His designs have also been included in the permanent collection of MoMA and Centre Pompidou, among others.
