Jozeph Forakis

Designer

Jozeph Forakis is an American designer working between New York and Milan. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a master’s from Domus Academy, he founded his studio in 1993. His first major project—the Havana lamp for Foscarini—was acquired by MoMA five years later and remains in continuous production. Since then, Forakis has moved easily across disciplines. He helped develop Motorola’s first steel-framed mobile phones, designed stackable seating for Magis, and continues to explore large-scale ideas such as hydrogen-powered vessels. Model making and repeated editing anchor his process: parts are reduced to what manufacturing, daily use, and end-of-life recycling genuinely require. Forakis has served on Compasso d’Oro juries and lectures at schools including Parsons, RISD, and the Politecnico di Milano, where he encourages students to balance digital tools with hands-on testing.
