Hans Bunde

Hans Bunde (b. 1919) was a Danish silversmith and designer whose work reflected the clean geometry and material focus of mid-century Danish functionalism. Trained as a silversmith, he spent much of his career at the renowned Danish silver manufacturer Carl M. Cohr, where he eventually directed the company’s Corpus Silver Team. Influenced by Swedish silversmith Wiwen Nilsson, Bunde developed an understated approach based on simple forms, balanced proportions, and a close understanding of materials. While silver remained central to his professional career, Bunde also experimented with wood in more personal projects. His best-known design, the Penguin, was created in 1954 and originally made for his daughters. Reduced to a few smooth curves, with a dark back and natural wood chest, the figure captures the bird with remarkably little detail. The design was never put into production during Bunde’s career, but is now produced by ARCHITECTMADE according to his original design.
