Ferruccio Laviani

Designer

Milan-based architect and designer Pietro Ferruccio Laviani moves between product, interior, and brand work with the same material curiosity. Since taking on art direction for Kartell in 1991, he has balanced plastic lamps with carved-wood furniture, asking how fabrication techniques can warp familiar forms. Educated at the Politecnico di Milano under Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso, Laviani keeps his studio direct: fast sketches, full-scale mock-ups, and constant dialogue with fabricators. Recent projects range from Fratelli Boffi cabinets and Foscarini lighting to retail sets for Dolce & Gabbana and graphics for De Padova. Across them runs a taste for repetition and controlled distortion—perforated polymers that glow, timbers milled until their edges seem blurred. Pieces such as Good Vibrations and Gothik-A now sit in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and tour exhibitions that explore illusion and craft. Laviani works out of a workshop in Milan, returning often to his native Cremona, where evening vinyl sessions share space with prototype shades.
