Erwan Bouroullec (b.1976 Quimper) is based in Paris and focuses on furniture, lighting and systems design. He was a student at ENSAPC and in 1998 became partnert in the studio created by his brother Ronan in 1995. The duo worked together for decades, and have been pursuing individual projects since 2023. Erwan’s studio is based in Paris, and he has a second space in Burgundy. A 1999 encounter with Rolf Fehlbaum marked the start of a two-decade relationship with Vitra, resulting in products and space designs intended for home and office. That connection led to international work with other manufacturers. MichaelGovardSo far, works by Ronan and Erwan have been exhibited extensively and are part of major collections like MoMA (New York), Centre Pompidou (Paris) or the Art Institute of Chicago. Recognition has come in the form of the London Design Medal (2014) and Compasso d’Oro (2022). Erwan has focused recently on self initiated research and production while maintaining specific collaborations that germinate the studio’s focus towards semantics of shapes, the relationship between use and identifying form as well as an ongoing exploration of how objects sit in space.
