Description
The work of contemporary American artist Carol Bove fascinates with a poetic exploration of cultural, social and political narratives as expressed through abstract compositions. Best known for her large-scale sculptures and collage installations, the artist expertly uses found materials in her work to create a play between volume, color, depth and scale. This two-volume book from the Guggenheim Museum is the first comprehensive survey of the artist’s 25-year career, which includes early drawings and paintings as well as later installations, collages and sculptures.
Edited by Katherine Brinson, the book features texts by Kelly Baum, Cathleen Chaffee, Jennifer Y. Chuong, Bellara Huang, Suzanne Hudson, and Mariët Westermann. The die-cut slipcase houses two volumes. One is a scholarly overview of Carol Bove’s work, with seven essays accompanied by beautiful illustrations. The other was designed by the artist as a more intimate and immersive journey into her work, featuring photographs of famous and lesser-known pieces, along with more recent paper collages.
This special edition comes with diamond-shaped paper elements that have been selected and cut by hand by the artist, making each copy one-of-a-kind as well as a collectible art object.
