Andrej Urem is a self-described “poet, sculptor, graphic and product designer.” He has been making candles out of his Gowanus, Brooklyn studio for the last few years of his artistic career. Inspired by architecture, Urem plays with shape and shadow to create geometric, complex candles that can be stacked and displayed as beautiful, utilitarian objects. He hand-pours each piece into a 3D-printed mold, achieving distinct shapes that could not have been produced without the technological innovations of today. Urem maintains the high quality of his work by using all-natural ingredients and continuing to question how to make candles a brighter and brighter part of contemporary life.
