Description

Most bookshelf lighting is mounted beneath a shelf or built into the millwork. The Bib Luz takes a different approach. Designed by Oscar Tusquets in 1986, it is a book-shaped bookshelf lamp that fits between volumes and lifts a small spotlight above them.

Tusquets developed the lamp while trying to illuminate his own library. General room lighting left the shelves in shadow, while lights placed directly on a shelf failed to reach the rows below. His solution positions the light source at the end of a slender arm, allowing it to shine across book spines, objects, and lower shelves.

The metal body has the proportions of a book and contains the lamp’s electrical components and switch. A chrome-plated arm rotates above the shelf, while the compact aluminum spotlight adjusts to direct the beam. A matching metal base plate is included for added stability and can be installed to the left, center, or right of the body.

Bib Luz uses a built-in 6W LED that produces 427 lumens of warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90. Its focused output is intended for bookcases, home libraries, office shelves, display cabinets, and collections rather than general room illumination.

For larger bookcases, multiple Bib Luz lamps can be interconnected and powered from a single outlet. Each lamp includes a 78.7-inch interconnection cable, while the main power cord measures 157.5 inches.

Choose an off-white or aluminum-gray body. Bib Luz is a corded, plug-in lamp; it is not rechargeable or dimmable. The integrated LED is not user-replaceable, and the lamp is approved only for indoor, dry locations.
