Description

A fascinating, socio-anthropological portrait of the Andinos in Cusco, Peru, this book challenges clichéd views of indigenous people. New York City–based Peruvian fashion and portrait photographer Gabriel Barreto Bentín collaborated with Peruvian anthropologist Francesco D’Angelo to complete Andinos: Encounters in Cusco, Peru. Celebrating the diversity and authenticity of the Andean people, the photographs portray individuals set against white backdrops instead of breathtaking landscapes. As a result, the focus turns on their faces, individuality and attire. Texts and interviews accompany the images, in a captivating exploration of modernity in Andean society and of what it means to be Andino. The book also features a foreword by Colombian-born photographer Ruven Afanador.
