Description
Shawn Henderson: Interiors in Context is the first monograph devoted to a designer who understands how calm is built—through proportion, light, and the slow accumulation of good choices. Across fourteen projects, Henderson moves between city and country with the same steady hand: townhouses and lofts, historic farmhouses and estates, and modern retreats by the water and in the mountains.
Two homes bring the approach into focus—his West Village apartment and his upstate New York place—because they show what happens when the client is also the designer. The rooms read as lived-in without feeling casual: sculptural lighting, furniture with strong silhouettes, custom pieces alongside vintage, and art that isn’t treated like an accessory.
The palette leans toward clean neutrals and deeper grays, warmed up by texture, finish, and the occasional crisp hit of color. Photographed by Stephen Kent Johnson, the spaces come through with depth and quiet confidence—the kind of interiors you can imagine inhabiting, not just looking at.
