Description
The Karman “Beautiful Mess” is a chandelier designed by Marcantonio, a design that stands at the intersection of art and practicality. It retains the traditional components of a chandelier—support structure, arms, light sources, and connecting cable—yet Marcantonio’s innovative approach deconstructs these elements into a novel silhouette. This creation blends various shapes, materials, and styles, each rooted in the broad domain of lighting but originating from different eras and locations. The piece prominently features numerous arms made of Murano blown glass with a frosted white finish, extending from a central structure of white metal. Crystal rosettes and bobeches from Bohemian tradition, reminiscent of mid-18th century Venetian craftsmanship, adorn the joints. The designer’s eclectic choice of pendants includes a gas lamp, a traditional bedside lamp with a fabric shade, a glass bell, a flexibly-armed lamp, and a neon bar light from the 1980s. Adding whimsy to the mix are unique elements like a glass leaping fish and a pink neon heart, introducing a playful pop of color to the ensemble.
