Description

Robert Adams’ photography book captures the essence of Southern California’s changing landscapes during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Having lived in the area during his university years, Adams returned to document the remnants of the once abundant citrus groves, eucalyptus, and palm trees in the Los Angeles Basin. His pictures, imbued with a sense of foreboding, simultaneously celebrate the resilience and verdancy of nature amidst urban expansion. This expanded and revised edition, originally published in 1986, features exquisite quadratone plates that bring new life and depth to Adams’ influential work. It’s a poignant testament to the environmental and cultural shifts of the region, offering a unique perspective on a familiar landscape transformed by time and human intervention.
