Description

Rooted in a deep appreciation for nature, Tree: Exploring the Arboreal World presents a stunning collection of full-page images that celebrate the incredible beauty, grandeur, and diversity of trees. The book chronicles the way these majestic perennial plants have inspired artists throughout history, featuring ancient frescoes, vintage botanical drawings, illustrations of Norse myths, paintings, and Edo-period woodblock prints. Alongside these fascinating artworks, vintage and contemporary photographs depict the breathtaking beauty of trees from all over the world. Among the more than 300 images, readers can admire a wide variety of trees, from Japanese cherry blossoms to giant sequoias and tropical palm trees. The selection of images was curated by an international group of experts, including botanists and art historians.

Edited by Phaidon, Tree: Exploring the Arboreal World features an introduction by Tony Kirkham and work from renowned artists and photographers like Ansel Adams, Paul Cézanne, Albrecht Dürer, Caspar David Friedrich, Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and Sebastião Salgado, to name a few. Perfect as a gift, this book is a heartfelt love letter to nature.
