Born in Japan, designer Yota Kakuda moved to London in 2003. While there, he completed his MA at the Royal College of Art and honed his creative skills at the studios of Ross Lovegrove and Shin and Tomoko Azumi. He moved back to Tokyo in 2008 and became a product designer for renowned company Muji. In 2011, the designer established his eponymous design firm. Based in Tokyo, the studio collaborates with Japanese and international clients. The firm’s work varies widely. Projects range from furniture and tableware to timepieces, apparel, and home and personal accessories. Yota Kakuda’s work has received important design awards, including the iF Design Award and the Good Design Award. Yota Kakuda is also a lecturer at the Musashino Art University.
