Vico Magistretti

Designer

Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was a key figure in postwar Italian design and architecture. Based in Milan for his entire career, he moved fluidly between building, planning, and product design, always with a focus on clarity and purpose. From the 1960s onward, his collaborations with companies like Cassina helped define a new era of Italian furniture—functional, elegant, and quietly radical. Iconic pieces like the Maralunga sofa and Nuvola Rossa bookcase remain in production today, proof of his long-term influence. Magistretti’s work can be found in design museums around the world, and his thinking around form, material, and restraint continues to shape contemporary design.
