Rasmus Bækkel

Rasmus Bækkel is a Danish furniture designer and artist whose work explores the space between functional design and sculpture. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design, with additional studies at Konstfack in Stockholm, he approaches familiar furniture archetypes as starting points for experimentation. Through an intensive, hands-on process of sketching, scale modeling, and full-size prototyping, Bækkel dismantles conventional forms and construction methods before rebuilding them with a fresh perspective. The resulting pieces balance strong sculptural expression with practical, everyday function. Alongside self-initiated studio projects, he creates furniture for established manufacturers such as Brdr. Krüger. Designs including the F Chair reflect his distinctive approach: conceptually rigorous, visually graphic, and carefully resolved through precise construction and natural materials.
