Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir, born in 1981 in Iceland, is a renowned designer with a fondness for the unique and unconventional. Growing up in a musical family in a quaint seaside village, Ragnheiður was enmeshed in music from an early age, mastering both the piano and the violin. While a musical career beckoned, her passion for eclectic objects prevailed. Her design ethos is steeped in a ‘do-it-yourself’ spirit, deriving inspiration from the mundane, transforming trivialities like candy wrappers into extraordinary artifacts. A proud alumna of the Iceland Academy of Arts and Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Ragnheiður founded her distinguished Reykjavik-based studio, Umemi, in 2011. Here, she crafts memorable designs, blending playful innovation with quintessential Scandinavian character. She’s celebrated for her knot-like cushions—whimsical woolen creations, with one iconic design, “Knot,” being featured by Design House Stockholm in 2016. Ragnheiður's work is a true reflection of her ability to see potential in the overlooked, imbuing every creation with a sense of wonder and delight.
