Peter Raacke

Designer

Peter Raacke (1928-2022) was born in Hanau, Germany. Trained as a goldsmith and an enameler, he also studied at the Hanau Drawing Academy. In the late 1950s, his Mono A flatware collection designed for German brand Mono made waves with its starkly minimalist aesthetic. The collection went on to receive a wide range of awards and became a classic. His other innovative designs include the Mono Ring series and the Otto cardboard chair. Peter Raacke taught at many universities throughout his life, shaping the minds of young designers, including at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. In 2003, the German Technology Museum in Berlin opened a retrospective exhibition, 50 Years of Peter Raacke Design, while in 2007 he received an honorary membership in the German Designer Club. Peter Raacke passed away in Berlin in 2022.
