Patrick Martinez

Designer

Patrick Martinez, an artist from Los Angeles with a diverse background of Filipino, Mexican, and Native American heritage, infuses his work with a unique cultural perspective. His early life in the San Gabriel Valley, coupled with the influence of Hip Hop and graffiti, shaped his artistic vision. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design with honors in 2005, Martinez is adept in a variety of media, including painting, neon, ceramic, and sculpture, through which he skillfully examines the everyday realities of life in L.A. Well-known for his mixed media "landscape" paintings and neon sign sculptures, Martinez's works are rich tapestries of working-class Los Angeles, featuring elements like distressed stucco and spray paint. His memorial/Pee Chee paintings are poignant tributes to societal issues. His design prowess extends to functional art, exemplified by the 'La Maison Inondée Bowl', designed for MoMA. This piece reflects his artistic ethos, merging utility with a deep engagement in cultural and social narratives.
