Nathan Yong, a 1991 industrial design graduate from Temasek Polytechnic, embarked on a career that initially diverged from design, focusing on purchasing and product development in Singapore. This role took him across Asia, from India to Indonesia, sourcing manufacturers and craftsmen for furniture and home accessories, a process that allowed him to absorb diverse skills and production methods. In 1999, Yong opened Air Division, a small store selling his own creations, marrying commercial success with critical recognition both locally and abroad. His academic journey culminated in a Masters in Design, summa cum laude, from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Celebrated for his emotionally resonant designs that reflect Singaporean society and culture, Yong's work is characterized by tranquility, contemplative spaces, and a blend of technology, tradition, and craftsmanship, all expressed with a sense of simplicity and introspection. Recipient of both the Red Dot Concept Design Award and the 2008 Singapore President's Design Award - Designer of the Year, Nathan Yong now directs a versatile design studio based in Singapore, showcasing his work in various international locales from Milan to Taipei.
