Jørgen Bækmark (1929–2021) didn’t design furniture to make a statement—he designed it to make life easier and more comfortable. During his years leading FDB Møbler’s design studio, he helped turn good Danish craftsmanship into something more people could bring into their homes. His pieces, like the J80 and J81 chairs, are quiet in the best sense: simple, welcoming, built to last, and easy to live with. Bækmark came from a background in cabinetmaking, and it shows in the way his furniture balances honest materials with just the right amount of detail. Comfort always came first for him, and you can still feel it today every time you sit in one of his designs.
