Davide Oldani

Designer

Davide Oldani, chef and creator of the POP Cuisine concept—which combines high quality with accessibility—opened his restaurant D’O in 2003 in Cornaredo, the town near Milan where he was born. Within a year, Italy’s most respected food guides had already recognized him as one of the country’s leading chefs. In 2004, he earned a Michelin star, followed by Milan’s Ambrogino d’Oro award in 2008. In 2013, he was invited to speak at Harvard, after a case study on his restaurant was published by the Harvard Business School Review. In May 2014, he launched the Davide Oldani Café inside Milan’s Malpensa Airport, in its new luxury plaza. He has published several books, including Cuoco andata e ritorno (2008), Le D’Onne lo sanno (2018), Mangia come parli (July 2020), and POP Food (2021), released in Feltrinelli’s pocket series. In 2016, he opened the new D’O—an evolution of the original concept—designed to offer a broader, more ambitious take on his cuisine, capable of engaging with both Italian and international culinary scenes. In November 2020, the Michelin Guide awarded him a second star for 2021, along with the Green Star for sustainability. Alongside his culinary work, Oldani also pursues product design, inspired by his daily observation of the guest experience. His tables, chairs, plates, cutlery, and glassware all reflect his POP philosophy: simple, functional, and elegant.
