The mouth-blown glass Decanter Carafe by Eva Solo is a unique design that adds an artistic touch to any table. The wine decanter’s spherical shape helps advance the oxygenation process. The stainless steel funnel located at the mouth of the decanter aerates the wine and provides a drip-free spout. The glass wine decanter can hold an entire bottle of wine.

Why decant your wine? “There might be several reasons for decanting wine, but it is almost always an advantage to do so, especially in the case of red wine. You can decant the wine to remove sediment or tartrates, and it can be decanted to allow the wine to breathe,” says well-known Swedish sommelier Sören Polonius from the Michelin-starred restaurant F12 in Stockholm.

When wine is decanted – or aerated – it softens the tannins so they become less sharp, it rounds off the acids and it opens up the wine’s fruitiness. In other words, the wine becomes more complex and acquires a fuller taste, and is therefore more pleasant to drink. An old, mature wine needs to be decanted for just 20-30 minutes (yet there might be sediment), while a completely young wine may need several hours of aeration. By comparison, it takes about a day to aerate a bottle of wine if you just remove the cork and leave the wine in the bottle – and who has time for that?
