Letterform Archive is a nonprofit center and independent publisher based in San Francisco, dedicated to lettering, typography, calligraphy, and graphic design. Founded by collector Rob Saunders and opened to the public in 2015, the Archive houses more than 100,000 objects spanning thousands of years of visual culture, from rare books and type specimens to posters, packaging, sketches, and original artwork.
Through its publishing program, Letterform Archive brings this material to a wider audience in books and paper goods that combine thorough research, distinctive graphic design, and exceptional image reproduction. Developed by an in-house editorial and creative team with direct access to the original artifacts, its publications explore influential designers, overlooked movements, and defining moments in the history of the graphic arts. Proceeds from the collection support the Archive’s preservation, educational, and public-access programs.
