At the center of the FREUD design and cafe-bars stands a firm belief that the past should be used as a pool of inspiration for creative ideas. This vintage thread runs throughout the family-owned company, starting with its inception. As a graduate of the Courtauld Institute of Art, David Freud founded the first cafe in London in 1986, fascinated by his father’s stories about the unique atmosphere of interwar coffee houses in Vienna. He wanted to recreate that relaxing space full of good conversation, good food, and good coffee, but he added his own touch, bringing his love for timeless design to the mix.
