Established by Wilton Carlyle Dinges in 1944 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, the Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) made its first product the same year: the Navy Chair. Originally designed for the US Navy, the chair needed to withstand the difficult environments of submarines and warships. Years later, the design caught the attention of the iconic Ettore Sottsass – the first designer to use the Navy Chair is a refined, residential context. The rest is history. After the huge success of their first design, Emeco began working with renowned designers to create furniture for modern interiors. These include ranges designed by Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, and Jasper Morrison, among others. The company uses recycled and reclaimed materials almost exclusively, with all products proudly crafted in the US.
